2012 BIENNIAL CONFERENCE AND ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Dear Friends,
You are cordially invited to the WFTO European Conference and WFTO-Europe’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held in Elspeet, the Netherlands, from 4 to 6 October 2012.
WFTO-Europe’s AGMs always represent a key moment to meet each other, coordinate our Fair Trade activities and take key decisions regarding the future of Fair Trade in general and more specifically of WFTO-Europe and Global. This year will be even more important!
In the 2011 WFTO Global AGM, in Mombasa, members voted for an alignment process that is going to be implemented from the beginning of 2013. Among other implications, this decision means that ALL members of WFTO Global will have to become members of their regional WFTO as well.
This will obviously have a significant impact on WFTO-Europe and on its (new) members, which is why we are inviting all the European WFTO Global members for this Conference. Legally, those who do not become members of WFTO-Europe before the AGM will not be able to vote; but we strongly wish to involve all European WFTO members in this year’s critical debates, so that we can collectively better prepare WFTO-Europe’s future, now seen as the network of all European WFTO members and Fair Trade Organizations.
This is why we would like to count on the presence and active participation of as many European WFTO members as possible, whether you are already a WFTO-Europe member or not. In the current period of economic and social hardship for so many Fair Trade Organizations, this Conference and AGM will be crucial to share experiences, to reflect on and continue building our common future as a family of Fair Trade Organizations, and to strengthen our networking activities.
The Conference and AGM will be held at the Mennorode Conference Center, in Elspeet, the Netherlands. Located in a natural and peaceful environment, Mennorode is a venue that has been investing on personal attention and on economic and environmental sustainability.
